As we live out our faith, we demonstrate and reflect the love of God by loving our neighbor.
When asked "who is my neighbor?" in Luke 10, Christ tells the parable of the good Samaritan. In this we learn that a true neighbor crosses racial divisions to physically meet serious needs and pays for recovery from his own pocket for a stranger. Our response to a world filled with millions of children living in poverty is to do as Christ has commanded us:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.
Missions at BHBC has multiple opportunities to sponsor a child and make a direct and personal impact in their life.
In 2012 Burnt Hickory Student Ministry traveled to Nairobi, Kenya for a mission trip. This was the start of a relationship with Swahiba Youth Networks and Peter Abungu. Since that time the relationship has grown and we have sent 11 missions teams and over 300 individuals to assist in the ministry of Swahiba Youth Networks. Currently there are over 40 teenage girls being sponsored by BHBC members in Kenya. If you would like more information about the ministry in Kenya contact Brian Foster at .
Burnt Hickory is starting a new relationship with Lluvias de Gracia (Showers of Grace) church and Pastor Marvin in a rural village in Guatemala. Working alongside Compassion International we are starting a Child Development Center on the site of Lluvias de Gracia Church to aid in the teaching, feeding and growing over 200 children to help them and their families know God, grow in Christ and get out of poverty. Each child needs a sponsor from Burnt Hickory that will build a relationship with them and help cover the cost of being a part of the Child Development Center. We will be taking several trips a year to meet these children, minister with Pastor Marvin and Lluvias de Gracia Church.
