Powder Springs, GA 30127

For year-end giving, checks will be posted to the calendar year in which they are physically received or postmarked.

In Person

Offerings are taken during Sunday morning worship services. Donors giving by cash or check are encouraged to use an offering envelope to ensure we accurately post/receipt your gift. You may also place your envelope in the night depository located in the rear worship lobby. If you would like personalized envelopes mailed to you (or to opt out), email your name and address to Marsha Jones.

Stock

There can be tax advantages to giving long term, appreciated securities (held for more than one year). By gifting shares directly to our brokerage account (versus selling shares and writing a check), you can generally deduct the full value of the shares and avoid the capital gains tax. We recommend you consult your tax advisor before making gifts.

IRA

For those over the age of 70.5 and subject to mandatory IRA distributions, the IRS now allows donors to make a QCD gift of up to $100,000 directly to the church. While the gift itself is NOT deductible, it does count toward your required annual distribution AND the value of the gift reduces your income - which, in most cases, provides greater tax advantages than a deduction. We recommend you consult your tax advisor before making gifts.

Estate Planning

Creating a will or estate plan is one way we honor God and our loved ones. Proverbs 13:22 tells us “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.”  BHBC has partnered with the Georgia Baptist Foundation to provide wise counsel and discounted services ranging from wills and estate plans to health directives.

Why We Give

What is a tithe or offering?

The word "tithe" literally means "a tenth" or 10%.  It represents the first 10% of your income. An offering is anything you give above and beyond the 10%.

Why do we tithe?

Tithing supports the ongoing ministry of the church, but more importantly it teaches us to put God first in our lives. Tithing is a reminder that God is the owner and supplier of everything we have (1 Chron. 29:11-12).

In Malachi 3:10 (NIV), God says: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."

God is giving you a personal invitation to an outpouring of his blessing in your life. This is the only place in Scripture where God tells us to put him to the test. In other words, God says, "Go ahead. I dare you. See if you can outgive me."

If tithing is an Old Testament principle, is it still relevant today?

Absolutely. Jesus affirmed the tithe in Matthew 23:23 where He tells the Pharisees, "You should have practiced the latter (justice, mercy and faithfulness) without neglecting the former (tithing).

Is God wise? Do you trust Him?

These are two fundamental questions behind the act of giving. If God is wise, then you should listen to what He says about financial stewardship. If you trust Him, then you should trust Him with all aspects of your life, including your finances. Accept God's invitation to put Him to the test. Start tithing faithfully and watch what He does in and through your life.
