7k platelet and 10k plasma units are needed daily.
21 million blood components are transfused yearly in the U.S.
The avg red blood cell transfusion is approximately 3 pints.
The blood type most often requested by hospitals is type O.
1.68 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2016.
Many need blood, sometimes daily, during chemotherapy.
A car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
